I'm like any other kid, except for one thing. I am lactose intolerant. That means that I'm allergic to milk. It stinks pretty bad, being allergic to milk. I can't have ice cream or chocolate. Or cookies or cheese. No butter or French toast, no pancakes. The list is almost endless. I feel left out at parties, even my own, because I can't have the cake or ice cream. If I do have some, my stomach will hurt. I can have just a little, but if I have more, the torture starts. I have a little bit too much milk during the day. *About two to four hours later, my stomach will start to hurt. If I'm at school, I'll go to the nurse and usually go home. It slowly gets worse as the day goes on. At night, when I go to bed, it's bad. Next, I wake up in the middle of the night. I can tell I am going to throw up. I stagger to the bathroom and puke. There is so much, it even comes out of my nose. It sounds funny, but it burns horribly. Eventually, I get back in bed. But 30 minutes later, it all happens again. It's not quite as bad, because there isn't as much to come out. But the stomach cramps are excruciating. I go back to bed again, but before I know it, I'm staggering back to the bathroom. I throw up about five times that night. The next morning, I'm tired and weak. I stay home from school and lay on a blanket all day. That's all I have the strength for. If I try to If I try to get up and walk around, my stomach forces me down. I can't have anything to eat until evening, and by then I'm starving. And before that, I'm thirsty. Overwhelmingly thirsty. But I can't have anything to drink until mid-morning. And then I can only have on spoonful of tea every 15 minutes. If I have more, my stomach might reject it. I can't have more until the afternoon. But in the afternoon, I can have two spoonfuls every 15 minutes. But I'm still thirsty. And that whole time, I have to lay down. It's really boring, even though I'm in front of the TV. It is also uncomfortable, because I have to stay in one place or my stomach will hurt. If I somehow make it to the evening, I get food. Not, much, only applesauce and toast, but hey, It's food! If I make to the next day, I'm allowed to have some 7up. It sure tastes good after all that bland food I've had to have. That's what it's like to be lactose intolerant. But, that's mostly past. Because now I have pills. I take two every morning, and violia! I can have milk! But bad things still happen. One day, on my vacation, I took my pills and everything. I had just as much milk as usual, but something happened. For details, see *. It was pretty bad, but things like that are really rare. I'm normally fine. But that's the thing about allergies. They're unpredictable!

Ask Auntie Marge

Dear Auntie Marge,
I have 2 friends who both like the same guy and they're fighting over him.

In the Middle

Dear In the Middle,
Cool! This is how it all started. I was on my way to Saturday School when I realized class had already started . As soon as I sat down, my cousin came running in saying that Anna had passed away! I didn't believe her at first, but when she said my mom needed to see me. That's when I felt the pain. I couldn't bear it when I heard it was true. A few moments later, my mom took me home. The next two days I cried myself to sleep.
On Tuesday, I went back to school putting on a brave face even though I was really sad. I got a lot of hugs that day and support. That evening, I visited her at the funeral home. I just couldn't bear it to see Anna lying there not talking. That made me extremely sad.
At Anna's funeral, many people came. I was surprised I could even see with tears filling my eyes, but at the funeral when Anna's mom gave a speech, and after hearing that I couldn't have thought back to take a picture with her and keep that picture forever. But it cheered me up a little to know that she's in a better place now. At the burial, it was freezing. I could hardly move to put the bouquet of flowers and bracelet in. But seeing her family and feeling sorry for them made me forget about the weather and go over and give the youngest sister a hug.
The youngest daughter's name was Kim and she didn't get to spend so much time with Anna, she was only 6. And to make her feel better, I usually give her candy or a small gift to brighten her day.
Today I'm still sad about it, and starting school again will be boring. She'd always tell me who she liked and who she disliked and told me hilarious jokes! Anna was kind, smart, pretty, and creative person and the best friend any girl could have. The day Anna passed away, she went to two hospitals and in the second one she died of pneumonia and the flu at the same time. The doctors tried, but her dad couldn't put her though anymore pain so he let her go.
So that's my story of my hardest thing that I had to overcome.
